This Indian Village Plants 111 Trees Every Time a Girl is Born

In a country where male children are still favored over females, Piplantri village in Rajasthan offers a refreshing and modern perspective. The endearing village embraces its daughters and has even created a tradition that benefits both the local people and the planet every time a girl is born. To save its daughters and create a greener planet, the community of Piplantri village plants 111 trees every time a girl comes into the world. ‘This brilliant exercise in eco-feminism no doubt will inspire the rest of India and the entire world,’ as artistically stated by Folomojo. The reason behind this tradition? To ensure that an increase in human population will never come at a cost to the environment. It’s an eco-friendly tradition that is literally helping to ensure a greener future with each new generation – how brilliant! Below are some beautiful photos of the community upholding this tradition: As a female child is born, the village gathers to plant 111 trees. Village residents collect 21,000 Rupees between themselves and 10,000 Rupees from the girl’s parent’s. The total sum of 31,000 Rupees (equivalent to $497.51 USD) is made into a 20-year fixed deposit for the girl. Parents are legally bound by a signed affidavit stating that their daughter will receive proper education. The affadavit also mandates that the girl should be married only after she reaches the legal age, and the trees planted after her birth must be correctly looked after. The community works together to ensure the trees survive, attaining fruition as the girl blossoms into womanhood. They villagers don’t just plant the trees – they care for them diligently as well. The trees are protected from termites and have aloe vera planted around them. And the trees – especially the aloe vera plants – are now a source of livelihood for several residents. Shyam Sundar Paliwal, the village’s former leader, first suggested this tradition in honor of his daughter who passed away at a young age. In the past 6 years, over a quarter of a million trees have been planted. And villagers claim there has not been any police case here for the last 7-8 years. This heartwarming and inspiring story deserves to be passed around with those you know. Spread some light into the world – share what this incredible village is doing and help co-create a greener world! This is What Americans Will Look like by 2050

With the increasing trend of interracial partnerships, it’s much more common for an individual to belong to a variety of ethnic backgrounds. As PolicyMic bluntly summarized, “in a matter of years we’ll have Tindered, OKCupid-ed and otherwise sexed ourselves into one giant amalgamated mega-race.” They’re absolutely right. But what will that look like? To answer this question, National Geographic built its 125th anniversary issue around this theme… and what they came up with is beautiful. Renowned photographer and portrait artist, Martin Schoeller, was commissioned to capture the lovely faces of our nation’s multicultural future. This is what the average American will look like by 2050: And like this: And this: What’s most entrancing is that none of these photographs are photo-shopped projections, but real people. That means America’s next generation will be a mix of “Blackanese,” “Filatino,” “Chicanese,” and “Korgentinian”. The numbers of these mixes will only grow. It was in 2000 that the U.S. Census Bureau let respondents check more than one race for the first time, and 6.8 million people did so. By 2010, that figure had increased to nearly 9 million – a spike of 32%. What does this mean for the future in terms of racism? Such mixture is encouraging, but there are definitely flaws with tracking racial population growth through a survey that encourages people to self-identify. This is especially so since so many familial, cultural, and even geographical factors influence one’s decision to claim multiple races. Race has no definition, no basis in biology, yet its constructions, functions, and mythologies irrevocably shape the world as we know it. Policy Mic further contemplates this – musing on how the trend for interracial marriages continues to grow, and in effect, how racial discrimination may optimistically dissolve in the future. Regardless of its implications, such change should be celebrated. Intermixing is a symbol of rapidly changing America, and perhaps by 2050 we’ll witness a country united by its diversity, unique interests, and melded backgrounds. Read More:...

Hozier’s Beautiful New Video ‘Work Song’ and a Dream Realized to Inspire You

Last May I posted a concept video a brilliant artist and friend, Jillian Meyers, had crafted to a song by Hozier. She created her vision for the song with a group of talented and heartfelt dancers in hopes of it leading to a collaboration with the man himself…Today I saw that dream come true with the release of Hozier’s ‘Work Song’. Knowing how it began; from inspiration evolving into an idea, a vision, seeing the product of that idea nurtured with passion, LOVE, and commitment, to then witnessing her dream manifest itself completely brought tears to my eyes and a smile so huge my heart ached. This is a perfect example proving all things are possible with love. Thank you for being so incredibly inspiring, always, Jilly. The world is much more beautiful with you in it. Enjoy the next few minutes of love and tenderness… And if you can’t get enough of it (or would like to see more of the delicious artistry in motion) here’s the concept video she had originally created for...

Power of Self-Healing and the Bio-Energetic Information System

That the mind affects the body to varying degrees has been a widely established fact for a long time. From simple pain relief to anesthetic-free surgery performed under the effect of hypnosis, there is countless evidence that shows the extent at which the mind can affect the body’s system and functioning. If all these cases were compiled under one body of knowledge or research, it would supersede all the medical archives till present. There’s Nothing Exceptional about Self-Healing Some of these cases are unexplainable within the parameters of Science or medical research. Most highlighted are cases where people with medically certified terminal illnesses such as cancer or tumors have unexpectedly healed despite not being cured when standard treatments were applied. Baffled doctors, scientists and researchers relegate such cases as unexplainable exceptions or a ‘miraculous’ twist of fate. Yet such cases are far from marginal or exceptional. They sum up to thousands beyond thousands of cases. The Limits of Western Science & the Placebo Effect. So what is going on? Are these cases quirks of nature or undeniably clear examples of mind over body? Can self-healing be put under a scientific lens? I believe that this is one of the many areas where the materialistic view of Science clearly fails to explain recurrent phenomena. The western scientific view on health is too narrowly dissected. It lacks perspective on the wider framework. For instance there is very little understanding on how the body processes information at an energetic, cellular, organ and up to system level. Also, how consciousness affect these information processes. In blind test studies, a control group is given an non-active substance or therapy while they believe they are given the real thing. When positive results are observed in the control group, they are said to manifest the so-called Placebo affect and the effectiveness of the cure is measured in how greater it is than the Placebo. Of course what is funny is that the Placebo effect is a powerful phenomena of mind-body healing staring scientists right in the eyes and should be a most important subject of study in itself! The Bio-Energetic Information System Ancient Eastern medicine was more forward in understanding health holistically and seeing the mind-body unit as a wide information network with ‘information’ passing through energy meridians that interface with the physical body in certain energy centers known as the chakras. Modern medicine can only see a tumor to the extent of cells reproducing under a microscope or in a CT scan and limits itself to see the cause and effect of how such cell proliferation can be slowed down through radiation or a administration...
