The Top 5 Similarities and Practices Between Big Tobacco and Big Pharma

The Top 5 Similarities and Practices Between Big Tobacco and Big Pharma

Tobacco companies and pharmaceutical companies share so many commonalities and industry practices, that it is quite difficult to deny their ideological similarities. Besides the fact that both have used medical doctors to push their products, here are 5 other examples. 1. They both keep harmful findings of their products from the public. Manufacturers from both Big Tobacco (BT) and Big Pharma (BP) deny the presence of any danger in their products and even spend millions of dollars trying to discredit the research that points to problems. BT knew that cigarette smoke contained radioactive alpha particles for more than four decades and developed “deep and intimate” knowledge of these particles’ cancer-causing potential, but they deliberately kept their findings from the public. UCLA researchers elaborate. BP routinely prevents both physicians, public health agencies and the public itself from discovering the true harm of pharmaceuticals. As just one example of many, Merck was successfully sued for millions for withholding critical data about heart attacks in landmark trials involving the now-banned cox-2 inhibitor, Vioxx. One of the most critical elements which defines the toxicity potential of vaccines are its pharmacokinetic properties. BP refuses to consider the study, analysis or evaluation of the pharmacokinetic properties of any vaccine ingredients or excipients. This means that the bodily absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion of ingredients within the vaccine are not known or even considered in safety assessments. 2. They both create fraudulent tests and arrange clinical trials by paying researchers to produce desired results. The incentive for researchers to fabricate data on behalf of BT and BP has always been enormous. Researchers have earned millions from drug research. And they know all too well that if they don’t produce the desired data, the loss of future work is inevitable. Unfortunately, because of secrecy, most fraud in clinical trials is unlikely to be detected. Ghost writers are commonly commissioned by drug companies to produce ghost studies. Six of the top medical journals published a significant number of articles written by ghostwriters. BT employed the same tactics in the 1950s for scientific and public acceptance of cigarettes. Who Really Writes Scientific Studies? One in seven scientists says that they are aware of colleagues having seriously breached acceptable conduct by inventing results. And around 46 per cent say that they have observed fellow scientists engage in “questionable practices”, such as presenting data selectively or changing the conclusions of a study in response to pressure from a funding source. 3. They both target Hollywood and children. The study published in the health journal Tobacco Control, said cigarette companies aggressively pursued product placement in films in the 1980s and “undertook an...

Woman Pays for Man’s Shortage

Submitted by Maggie Eriksson from Ft Lauderdale, Fl In a poorer neighborhood grocery store a shabbily dressed man counted out all his change for his purchases. Counting all his pennies, nickles and dimes he was $1.50 short. Among his purchases was baby food. He turned to the next customer in line, a woman of a different race, and pleaded if she could help him with a dollar and a half. Instead she said “You can’t go around without a penny in your pocket”, and instructed the clerk to give him back five dollars and put the rest that he was short on her bill. He was overwhelmed with gratitude and embraced her with “God bless you”. She responded “God bless you, too; I’ve been where you are.” I saw it and hope I can do the same some time. Power of Self-Healing and the Bio-Energetic Information System

That the mind affects the body to varying degrees has been a widely established fact for a long time. From simple pain relief to anesthetic-free surgery performed under the effect of hypnosis, there is countless evidence that shows the extent at which the mind can affect the body’s system and functioning. If all these cases were compiled under one body of knowledge or research, it would supersede all the medical archives till present. There’s Nothing Exceptional about Self-Healing Some of these cases are unexplainable within the parameters of Science or medical research. Most highlighted are cases where people with medically certified terminal illnesses such as cancer or tumors have unexpectedly healed despite not being cured when standard treatments were applied. Baffled doctors, scientists and researchers relegate such cases as unexplainable exceptions or a ‘miraculous’ twist of fate. Yet such cases are far from marginal or exceptional. They sum up to thousands beyond thousands of cases. The Limits of Western Science & the Placebo Effect. So what is going on? Are these cases quirks of nature or undeniably clear examples of mind over body? Can self-healing be put under a scientific lens? I believe that this is one of the many areas where the materialistic view of Science clearly fails to explain recurrent phenomena. The western scientific view on health is too narrowly dissected. It lacks perspective on the wider framework. For instance there is very little understanding on how the body processes information at an energetic, cellular, organ and up to system level. Also, how consciousness affect these information processes. In blind test studies, a control group is given an non-active substance or therapy while they believe they are given the real thing. When positive results are observed in the control group, they are said to manifest the so-called Placebo affect and the effectiveness of the cure is measured in how greater it is than the Placebo. Of course what is funny is that the Placebo effect is a powerful phenomena of mind-body healing staring scientists right in the eyes and should be a most important subject of study in itself! The Bio-Energetic Information System Ancient Eastern medicine was more forward in understanding health holistically and seeing the mind-body unit as a wide information network with ‘information’ passing through energy meridians that interface with the physical body in certain energy centers known as the chakras. Modern medicine can only see a tumor to the extent of cells reproducing under a microscope or in a CT scan and limits itself to see the cause and effect of how such cell proliferation can be slowed down through radiation or a administration...

What I Learned From My 60 Deliberate Acts in 60 Day Kindness Birthday Challenge

What I Learned From My 60 Deliberate Acts in 60 Day Kindness Birthday Challenge

For my 60th birthday, I challenged myself to do 60 very deliberate acts of kindness for 60 consecutive days and write about my experiences each day. Now I am no stranger to going out and doing things, but this is the first time I have ever been focused and paid attention to ‘Kindness Acts’ to the degree that was required in coming up with what I was going to do each day, preparing for it when I needed to, and then writing about it for 60 days. Here is what I want to share. In my experience, there is no such thing as a ‘kindness act’ There is no separate ‘act’ that can be called Kindness. I believe our true nature IS kindness and that when we are not acting out of fear( which is what manifests as self interest, greed, material competition, and not- enoughness) we act out of love. In that act of love, we are moved towards compassion and giving, and that is an endless and seamless stream- not an isolated act. We want people to be happy, to be fed, to be delighted, to offer up something that we might have to give and to share. It is just Love moving, and it acts on its own behalf. I don’t feel like I have been the ‘giver’ here. The way that it appears to me, is that all of us will have things at different times in our lives to offer. Today, I might have something in my possession that I can offer you, and tomorrow things might be in your hands. We don’t own anything. Everything in our lives is a gift, that is ours to pass on. It is a privilege to be able to share, and I am so, so grateful that I have had this opportunity. I have received far more than I could ever hope to give in this lifetime. There is nothing that you can do, that will make you happier than being generous in life. It is one of the greatest elixirs for what ails humans. We recently talked with school kids who shared their experiences of kindness- of asking for birthday presents to go to less fortunate kids, bringing gifts to hospitals and other things along those lines they had experienced. When Pete asked them how it made them feel they responded ” It feels so good you just want it to keep on going. You wish you just had more and more things to offer.” That is my experience as well. People are supporting my deepest happiness in allowing me into their lives This does not...
